Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4 inch wedges
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice in a large bowl. Note: This stops them from turning brown while you prep the pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a 12 inch cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Whisk the glaze constantly for 1-2 minutes until the sugar has fully dissolved and it's bubbling.
  5. Carefully add the apple slices to the skillet.
  6. Gently fold the apples into the glaze. Note: Use a spatula to avoid breaking the slices.
  7. Cook for 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Continue cooking until the apples are translucent and coated in a thick syrup.
  9. Remove from heat once tender but still firm.
