Ingredients:

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced firm baking apples
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples into uniform 1/4-inch slices. Toss in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
  2. Melt butter in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Stir in sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Once the mixture bubbles and smells nutty, add apple slices. Stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until apples are slightly softened.
  4. Whisk cornstarch with one tablespoon of cold water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the bubbling apples and stir continuously for 2 minutes until the sauce becomes a clear, velvety glaze.
  5. Remove from heat immediately to avoid overcooking.
