Ingredients:
- 6 cups peeled and sliced firm baking apples
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp cold water
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice apples into uniform 1/4-inch slices. Toss in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
- Melt butter in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Stir in sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Once the mixture bubbles and smells nutty, add apple slices. Stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until apples are slightly softened.
- Whisk cornstarch with one tablespoon of cold water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the bubbling apples and stir continuously for 2 minutes until the sauce becomes a clear, velvety glaze.
- Remove from heat immediately to avoid overcooking.
