Ingredients:

  • 12 oz wide egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/4 cups cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella or sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles and cook for 2 minutes less than the package directions until al dente.
  2. Drain the noodles in a colander and return them to the pot or a mixing bowl.
  3. While the noodles are still warm, stir in the sour cream, cottage cheese, Parmesan, onion powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is browned and onions are translucent.
  5. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened, then stir in the oregano.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Transfer half of the creamy noodle mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  9. Spoon the savory beef mixture over the noodles in an even layer.
  10. Top with the remaining creamy noodles.
  11. Cover the top with shredded mozzarella or sharp cheddar cheese.
  12. Bake for 20 minutes until cheese is bubbling. Optionally, broil on high for the final 2 minutes for a crispy crust.
